Springboks destroy the roses

South Africa humiliated world champions England here on Saturday as they inflicted a record World Cup defeat on them winning 36-0 to avenge their 2003 World Cup loss to the English. Two tries to JP Pietersen – taking his total to three – one from Juan Smith and 18 points from Percy Montgomery handed England their first World Cup defeat since the Springboks beat them here at the Stade de France in the 1999 World Cup quarter-finals.

Quotes some John Smith and Percy Montgomery:

“We are not going to diminish our momentum and disregard the next two matches,” said Smit, who extended his national record as captain to 44 tests of which he has won 29.

“Complacency? If there’s a team who falls victim to that then they didn’t believe it in the first place.” (Smith)

“This a real statement, Obviously we are taking it game by game, but we haven’t come here to mess around. Our ambition is to be a real contender. (Montgomery)

“We have waited a long time for it,” (Montgomery)

“It is very satisfying and keeps our campaign well and truly on track.” (Montgomery)

What a clinical performance.
Although the whole team played well I would like to make special mention of a few.
Francois Steyn, you beauty. Slipped into the centre birth and all of a sudden it looked like our centres could attack and what beautiful ball distribution.His defense was rock solid and caused turnarounds by going for the ball not the man, a few more Springboks should learn from this.
Butch James, best game yet in a Springbok jersey and not one questionable tackle.
Juan Smith, the man is everywhere, defense, attack, refereeing. You name it he is involved.
Fourie Du Preez, excellent service and sniping runs and boy when he cracked on the pace… try.

Unfortunately Wikus did not quite match up and as for the captain well he is 2 years past retirement.

I dont think Wikus did to poorly.. he forced few turn overs.. sure hes no schalky

Spot on with the other mentions.. Fourie is brilliant..

Big call: I think were set for the final.. Next up: Usa, Tonga, Wales, Argentina/France.. they got nothing on us!

History has taught us that no 10 plays a key role world cup finals. Well done Butch. But that is just part of the story. Jake & kie and all players deserve credit and respect. Our hit rate in the world cup has been phenomenal. We secured 2 cups in 4 tournaments (50%), Australia 2 cups in 6 (33.3%)and England and NZ 1 in 6 tournaments (16.7%.

We have a telnented coach, brilliant players, a TEAM and “vasbyt”. Can there be any further uncertainty about the best team in the world?
