Peter de Villiers has been appointed as the new head coach for the Springboks following up on Jake White‘s success. His appointment was confirmed at a press conference late yesterday afternoon after the president’s council met for two-and-a-half hours to vote on the new coach. De Villiers won the vote by 10-9 over Heyneke Meyer.
De Villiers has been the SA U-21 coach from 2004-2006, and he won the U-21 tournament in 2005 and lost in the final in 2006. He also coached the up-and-coming Springboks in 2007 when the won the Nations Cup in Romania.
De Villiers has been handed a two year contract to coach the World Champions.
