In scoring his 1st goals for the club, Andrei Arshavin helped Arsenal break a four game streak without a goal and send them into fourth place in the Premier League and back into Champions League contention.

With nearly four games without a win and a season riddled with injury, it seemed unlikely the Gunners would qualify for a spot in the Champions League. Fabregas, Rosicky, Eduardo, Walcott,  and Nasri (to name a few) have or are still suffering from injuries. Lets not forget about the selling of Hleb, Senderos and Henry.For the first time in a while Wenger has had few big name options to turn to and those still at the club have been having poor seasons by any standard.

Never being one to buy his way out of trouble Wenger used what he had at his disposal and him and the side slogged it out until the January transfer period.There had been talk of the star from  the Euro Cup Andrei Arshavin making a move from Zenith but for a figure (20 mill) that Arsenal were simply not willing to pay. In the end his move made signing history for the club and is currently their largest purchase ever.

I myself thought, who is this guy, where has he been, he is no spring chicken, why now? I thought it may just prove to be like the Djouf signing for Liverpool.

Arshavin has slotted in well and is already accustomed to the Arsenal brand of football, something Wenger always manges to find, but was the 12 mill worth it? Is he going to continue on to become an Arsenal great? I hope so! Will he be a Thiery Henry? Unlikely.
